Most people don't think about what they're buying when they purchase a new toner cartridge. Companies that manufacture OEM cartridges are often very large and have a great deal of overhead including salaries, bonuses, vacation pay, insurance, benefits, packging costs, shipping costs, warehouse costs, production costs, multi-million dollar marketing strategies, lawsuits, profit margin etc...

When you buy an OEM toner cartridge, these costs are all wrapped into the cost of the product. Doesn't that make you wonder how much it actually costs to manufacture a toner cartridge?

Overhead
A Changing Market
Have you noticed lately how much printers have come down in price compared to 10, 5 or even 3 years ago? A changing market dictated faster products with more features at a much cheaper price.

Printer manufacturers aren't stupid. They know that you're going to buy alot more toner cartridges than printers so instead of charging more initially for the machine, they practically give the machine away and raise the price of the consumables.
